What participants do
Teams of up to six people create in class a game that the whole class can play, that lasts at most five minutes and is fun (immersion, ideation, selection, presentation), and then the class plays the games created. The conceptual part comes after the experience: the elements that appear in the games, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, the Werbach and Hunter pyramid. The readings: A Theory of Fun for Game Design, the "Fourteen Forms of Fun", Oracle's gamification material on UX, Jane McGonigal's talk and Games for Change. The material closes with Yvonne Carvalho's account of getting a History class to play Travian for two months until a student realized on their own: "we are Rome, aren't we?".
